TANAC/TANAGRO Employees participate in workshop on ecosystem services

06 of April of 2017

Partnership between the company and the Atlantic Forest Program of WWF-Brazil took the workshop "Application of the methodology of prioritization of ecosystem services of Camaquã (RS) basin" to Tanac/Tanagro headquarters, in Montenegro (RS), on March 29 and 30. Employees of the sustainability, raw material, forest management, forest harvesting and Cattle breeding areas discussed about ecosystem services and its use in the region of the Basin of Camaquã, prioritized in the project "Management, conservation and restoration of the Forests of the Atlantic Forest biome".

In Rio Grande do Sul, there are around 40 thousand families involved with the acacia forests and potential raw material suppliers to the company, which operates since 1948, producing several products derived from the tannin extracted from the bark of the plant, and more recently woodchips and wood pellets. The workshop, as well as the partnership as a whole, seeks protection of the Atlantic Forest through conservation of the biodiversity and the promotion of sustainable use of the natural resources.

The actions promote protection of springs, producer certification, livestock-forest integration and encouragement to practices that reduce erosion, among others. "We believe that well managed forests can have a positive environmental and social impact for the community”, says Daniel Venturi, conservation analyst of WWF-Brazil Atlantic Forest Program.

In May another workshop will be held, which will present the practical actions of the partnership with local partners, such as producers, government agencies, river basin committees and universities. “The partnership with the private sector is the key to conservation of the Atlantic Forests”, says Daniel.
